HYDRATE – During Workout
Water alone during exercise isn’t the most effective way to hydrate. The body flourishes with an optimal balance of carbohydrates, electrolytes, and water. This balance is known as the fluid’s osmolality.
Osmosis is a process by which a solvent (such as water) passes through a semipermeable membrane (such as your gut lining) from a less concentrated solution into a more concentrated one, in order to equalize the concentrations. If your hydration source is hypertonic and filled with sugar, it is more concentrated than your blood, so it may absorb slowly or even dehydrate you. Most commonly known sports drinks are hypertonic due to high sugar content. A hypotonic hydration source is less concentrated and will therefore absorb faster into your blood. Hydrate is slightly hypotonic, assuring rapid fluid absorption and ushering its electrolyte content, while aiding the body’s fluid balance.
